Friday Favorites: The Upcoming Release Edition

Welcome to Friday Favorites! FF's will be a weekly feature on this blog and I'm very excited about this segment. Every Friday I'll be making a list of books, authors, characters, etc. who I feel deserve a little bit of recognition. This week's FF will be featuring three soon-to-be-released books that I'm dying to get my paws on. So, without further ado, let's get to listing!

Goodreads synopsis: In the Community, there is no more pain or war. Implanted computer chips have wiped humanity clean of destructive emotions, and thoughts are replaced by a feed from the Link network.

When Zoe starts to malfunction (or “glitch”), she suddenly begins having her own thoughts, feelings, and identity. Any anomalies must be immediately reported and repaired, but Zoe has a secret so dark it will mean certain deactivation if she is caught: her glitches have given her uncontrollable telekinetic powers.

As Zoe struggles to control her abilities and stay hidden, she meets other glitchers including Max, who can disguise his appearance, and Adrien, who has visions of the future. Both boys introduce Zoe to feelings that are entirely new. Together, this growing band of glitchers must find a way to free themselves from the controlling hands of the Community before they’re caught and deactivated, or worse.

Why I'm looking forward to it: The whole idea of having a computer chip embedded in my brain that completely erases who I am and instead makes me into a mindless drone is both terrifying and horrifyingly interesting.  I'm very interested in how Ms. Anastasiu is going to set up this premise. Were people so desperate that they willingly submitted themselves to this in a last-ditch effort to save humanity? Is there some evil government who managed to subdue every single citizen one-by-one and brain wash them into thinking that this was a viable option? I guess we'll find out on August 7th!

Title: Defiance
Author: C.J. Redwine
Series: Defiance #1
Expected publication: August 28th, 2012
Published by: Balzer + Bray
ISBN: 978-0062117182

Goodreads synopsis: Within the walls of Baalboden, beneath the shadow of the city’s brutal leader, Rachel Adams has a secret. While other girls sew dresses, host dinner parties, and obey their male Protectors, Rachel knows how to survive in the wilderness and deftly wield a sword. When her father, Jared, fails to return from a courier mission and is declared dead, the Commander assigns Rachel a new Protector, her father’s apprentice, Logan—the same boy Rachel declared her love for two years ago, and the same boy who handed her heart right back to her. Left with nothing but fierce belief in her father’s survival, Rachel decides to escape and find him herself. But treason against the Commander carries a heavy price, and what awaits her in the Wasteland could destroy her.

At nineteen, Logan McEntire is many things. Orphan. Outcast. Inventor. As apprentice to the city’s top courier, Logan is focused on learning his trade so he can escape the tyranny of Baalboden. But his plan never included being responsible for his mentor’s impulsive daughter. Logan is determined to protect her, but when his escape plan goes wrong and Rachel pays the price, he realizes he has more at stake than disappointing Jared.

As Rachel and Logan battle their way through the Wasteland, stalked by a monster that can’t be killed and an army of assassins out for blood, they discover romance, heartbreak, and a truth that will incite a war decades in the making.

Why I'm looking forward to it: I'm interested to see how C.J. Goodwine is going to explain Protectors. Does every female citizen in Baalboden have one? Or just the upper-class women? Does Rachel simply accept Logan as her Protector or does she fight the decision? Why did Logan reject her? And speaking of Logan, does anyone else have a feeling that he might become a new favorite male interest? The questions go on.

Title: Prized
Author: Caragh M. O'Brien
Series: The Birthmarked Trilogy #3
Expected publication: October 2nd, 2012
Published by: Roaring Book Press
ISBN: 978-1596435711

Goodreads synopsis: After defying the ruthless Enclave, surviving the wasteland, and upending the rigid matriarchy of Sylum, Gaia Stone now faces her biggest challenge ever. She must lead the people of Sylum back to the Enclave and persuade the Protectorat to grant them refuge from the wasteland. In Gaia’s absence, the Enclave has grown more cruel, more desperate to experiment on mothers from outside the wall, and now the stakes of cooperating or rebelling have never been higher. Is Gaia ready, as a leader, to sacrifice what—or whom—she loves most?

Why I'm looking forward to it: I have so many feels that I don't even know where to begin. Leon is one of my favorite male characters ever, despite the major temper tantrum that he threw in Prized and I can't wait to read more about his relationship with Gaia. I'm also super excited to see how Gaia is going to grow as a leader of Sylum and just augh! So many feels, you guys. I can't even.
